昨日、湯殿山で見かけたオタカラコウ、山地帯から亜高山帯の沢沿いの水辺に生える大型の多年草、葉はフキに似ている、宝香とは防虫剤や綱領にする竜脳香のこと、匂いが似ているため、良く似た仲間のメタカラコウの対比で雄と付いたとある。
